TFM: The First Men

TFM: The First Men has been in Early Access since November 2, 2022, and remains actively developed by its solo developer. The game has received five major content updates during Early Access: Version 0.7.0 (June 29, 2023), Version 0.7.31 "The Sacred Genesis" (November 6, 2024), Version 0.7.34 "Archetypes Reborn" (June 26, 2025), along with numerous feature patches and bug fixes throughout. The major updates have arrived roughly every 6–12 months across the Early Access period. The most recent developer communication is the June 26, 2025 news post for Version 0.7.34. In it, the developer explicitly states: "The road to full release continues." They outline specific planned work before full release: overhauls to the Breeding, Cooking, and Inheritance systems; localization into multiple languages; additional Creation Stories; and further improvements to game flow and onboarding. The developer also acknowledges the pace has slowed due to solo development and competing responsibilities, but reaffirms their personal commitment: "I feel a responsibility to keep improving it, even if slowly." As of today (October 8, 2026), the last developer communication was on June 26, 2025 — approximately 15 months ago. This exceeds the roughly 6–12 month cadence between major updates, and is past the 6-month silence threshold. This warrants attention. However, the developer explicitly warned in their last post that future progress would be slow, and framed themselves as part of a new team supporting other indie developers while continuing work on TFM. Given this explicit acknowledgment of a slower pace — rather than silence following a normal cadence — the June 26, 2025 statement remains the most recent and authoritative developer communication. It clearly describes planned content and does not indicate the game is complete or abandoned. The game also remains purchasable and retains its Early Access flag on Steam. The gap since the last update is notable, but the developer explicitly set the expectation of slower, ongoing development rather than concluding it. The outstanding commitments (Breeding/Cooking/Inheritance overhauls, localization, new Creation Stories) have not been fulfilled or retracted.
