Evaluation

The Haunted Building released on January 10, 2024 as a complete, self-contained horror adventure game. The store description describes it as "Unit One: The Locksmith," framing it as the first chapter in a series rather than a standalone episodic release — but there is no developer announcement of a Unit Two or any follow-up content for this specific game. The most recent developer communication about The Haunted Building was a November 21, 2025 update adding full English and Japanese translations, along with minor bug fixes. This was a localization and polish update, not new story content. On January 9, 2026, the developer posted an update announcing the release of an entirely separate new game, Heartbeat House: Hong Kong. In that post, they describe it as "a project with a strong sense of completion," and reference The Haunted Building series in passing — but make no mention of any upcoming content or follow-up unit for The Haunted Building itself. The developer has not announced any future DLC, expansions, or additional chapters for this title. No unreleased DLC appears on the store listing. The last meaningful communication about The Haunted Building was the November 2025 localization update, and the developer has since moved on to publishing a new game. The game launched as a complete narrative experience and no post-launch content cycle has been established.

About this game

Every scene is a foreshadowing.
This is more than just a “ghost story.”
By unlocking different endings, your expectations will be overturned—twice—and your understanding of the truth will shift in completely unexpected ways.

“The Haunted Building: The Locksmith on the First Floor” is a uniquely styled horror adventure set in the public housing block Cheung Wing House.
You play as Lee Shing, a young part-time security guard who becomes entangled in a series of unforgettable, nerve-wracking events inside this mysterious building.

The story takes place in a residential block scheduled for demolition and redevelopment.
Because a handful of tenants still refuse to move out, your main duty is to collect their relocation consent forms.

However, you soon discover that strange things lurk in every corner.
Each remaining resident behaves in unsettling ways…
And rumors of terrifying spirits wandering the building only make Lee Shing’s investigation even more dangerous.

Set against the backdrop of 1990s Hong Kong, the game carries a strong nostalgic charm reminiscent of classic Hong Kong cinema, letting players relive an era filled with atmosphere and tension.

About Unit One: The Locksmith

The first chapter focuses on a locksmith living on the first floor.
You must find a way—by any means necessary—to convince him to leave, and unravel the mysteries surrounding him.

Every choice you make shapes the story and leads to multiple endings.
Some truths require more than one playthrough to uncover.
Whether the tenants live or die, and whether Lee Shing can survive and see through the lies—all depends on you.

*The second unit “The Braided-Hair Girl” is currently in development, along with the series prequel “Urban Legend: Takeout.” Stay tuned!
