Evaluation

The Metronomicon: Slay The Dance Floor launched on September 29, 2016 and received a healthy wave of post-launch content through its first year. The developer shipped six major content drops — multiple challenge DLC packs throughout late 2016, a large free expansion called "Slay The Dance Floor" on August 30, 2017 (adding local multiplayer, Endless Mode, a new hero, and more), and a final challenge DLC pack in September 2017. All eight DLC items listed on the store are marked as released, with the last one shipping on September 6, 2017. After 2017, the pace of new content slowed considerably. The most recent developer communication is a January 5, 2024 patch that added Steam Deck support and improved controller handling — a maintenance and compatibility update rather than new gameplay content. No new content has been announced, no unreleased DLC exists on the store, and the developer has made no statements about future plans since that patch. The content release pattern effectively concluded in late 2017. The January 2024 patch is a platform-support update with no indication of renewed content development. With all DLC shipped, no outstanding commitments, no sustained post-2017 content cadence, and nearly nine years since launch with no new content signals, the game is a complete package.

About this game

Packing in a fully-fledged story mode with a colorful cast of musically-empowered heroes and villains, The Metronomicon sees you take control of a party of eight new masters of the “rhythmic combat arts” to wage musical warfare against a multitude of dance-mongering fiends. Control up to four concurrent heroes as they cast powerful spells, buff their teammates, and beat down their enemies with a variety of magical loot and groovin’ dance moves. The effectiveness of your team is all in the rhythm, so put on your dancing pants, light up dad’s disco ball, and prepare your body for The Metronomicon. Oh, and did I mention couch co-op? Because nothing's better than an armored dance partner.

The Metronomicon features a fantastic, fully-licensed soundtrack featuring some of the hottest electronic, synthwave, chiptune and indie artists, including an unreleased track from Shiny Toy Guns, along with tracks from YACHT, Perturbator, J-Punch, Dj CUTMAN, and many, many more. As much a soundscape as it is a soundtrack, the music behind The Metronomicon is set to be every bit as varied and exciting as the gameplay itself.
