The Yellow King

The Yellow King entered Steam Early Access on February 5, 2020 as a dark Lovecraftian MMO developed by a small two-person team at Spellbook. Throughout its early months, the team was highly active — posting updates roughly weekly and shipping a variety of new features including weapon systems, PvP arenas, gamepad support, quests, hardcore mode, and platform ports to Mac and Linux. The most significant content update arrived on June 19, 2020, adding an entirely new dungeon called The Cyclopean City, complete with 7 new enemies, 17 new maps, and an overworld city with shops. That June 19, 2020 post was the last official communication from the developer. Since then — a period spanning nearly six years to today's date of June 25, 2026 — there have been no further news posts, patches, or announcements of any kind. The game's store description still frames it as an evolving Early Access project and invites players to participate in its "continuous development... over the next several years," but no development activity has followed that framing. The game remains available for purchase in Early Access, and no explanation has been given for the prolonged silence. Given the extended gap since any developer activity, it is unclear whether active development is still ongoing.
