Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor launched on March 17, 2026, developed by Dovetail Games in collaboration with Mattel. The James Add-On was available at launch as part of the Deluxe Edition.
Since launch, Dovetail has been consistently active: a post-launch update on March 26, 2026 committed to ongoing patches; a major feature patch shipped on April 27, 2026 with extensive gameplay, visual, UI, and audio fixes; and on August 25, 2026, another update added a free LBSC livery for Thomas and Steam Deck support.
The most significant news came on August 25, 2026, when Dovetail held their Dovetail Direct: Summer 2026 showcase and revealed the first official roadmap for the game. The roadmap explicitly confirms two additional character Add-On DLCs are in development, with each Add-On bringing a new playable engine and more scenarios. The developer also confirmed a free expression wheel feature is coming in a near-term patch, along with continued regular updates. A physical edition for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch is also planned for later in 2026.
As of today (September 8, 2026), the roadmap commitment to two unshipped Add-Ons is the clearest signal: content has been publicly announced and is on the way.
