Uncrewed officially left Early Access on March 26, 2020, at which point the developer described it as a complete game. On March 26, 2020, the developer noted plans for a campaign expansion and further content updates. However, no campaign expansion ever appeared as a separate DLC listing, and the most recent feature patch shipped on April 3, 2023 (public lobbies and map editor improvements). Since then, the only significant developer communication has been the April 11, 2025 announcement of Uncrewed 2 — a full sequel currently in development and slated for a 2026 release. That announcement thanks players for supporting "the original Uncrewed," framing it as a finished product whose successor is now being built. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no roadmap for the original game, and no developer statements indicating further updates to Uncrewed itself. The developer's attention has clearly shifted to Uncrewed 2. The last update to the original game was on April 3, 2023, and there is no evidence of any post-launch content cadence that would suggest more is coming. The game is effectively complete.

The story takes place sometime in the future when sentient machines are seemingly all that is left of intelligent life. In a search for an elusive piece of software, authored by their mysterious and powerful creator, the machines have banded into warring factions. They predict that the code will not only provide the answer for the meaning of their existence, but also give the ultimate power to the first one to execute it.
