Warbox is a solo-developed military sandbox game that entered Steam Early Access on March 22, 2021, and remains explicitly in that state — still carrying a version number of 0.0.4.8, far from a 1.0 release. The developer (Mantaliss) has maintained a consistent pattern of feature updates throughout Early Access. Looking at the documented history: version 0.0.3.0 shipped on August 1, 2022 (a major Unreal Engine 5 upgrade), followed by versions 0.0.4.2 through 0.0.4.8 shipping between September 2023 and October 1, 2025. These updates have steadily added new weapons, character and faction customization systems, AI behavior improvements, a new organ and wound system, animation overhauls, and early groundwork for vehicles and modding. The most recent update, version 0.0.4.8 on October 1, 2025, delivered a full rework of the customization system, multiple new AK-series weapons, new gear options, optimization improvements, and various gameplay and bug fixes. Notably, that update explicitly noted that color/camo customization was "disabled for now" — a clear signal that work on that system was still in progress at the time of release. A July 2024 developer post acknowledged personal setbacks (a motorcycle accident and COVID) that slowed progress but explicitly confirmed "the game is not dead" and previewed ongoing work on vehicles and early modding functionality — both features that have not yet shipped in finished form. As of today, October 1, 2026, the last official developer communication was the October 1, 2025 update — exactly one year ago. The historical gap between major updates has ranged from roughly 2 to 12 months, so this silence is reaching the outer edge of the established pattern.
