Evaluation
Warfare 1944 entered Steam Early Access on July 7, 2020, self-described as being in a very early "pre-alpha" state. The developer (originally Drakeling Labs, now listed under MicroProse Software) was transparent from the start that the game was far from complete, with major systems like aircraft, ground vehicles, additional factions, and a full single-player mode all planned for future development.
Activity was reasonably consistent through early 2021, with several feature patches and a devblog in April 2021 that detailed ongoing work. However, communications on this game's Steam page then went largely quiet. The last post on Warfare 1944's own page was on October 26, 2022, and it contained no actual update — only a link redirecting readers to an announcement on the separate Operation: Harsh Doorstop page. That announcement has not been followed by any further communication on either game's page in the years since.
As of June 20, 2026, the last meaningful developer post for Warfare 1944 dates back to April 2021 — over five years ago. The game's store description still references future single-player development, but none of the many systems that were in-progress or planned (vehicles, aircraft, Russian faction, full single-player) have publicly shipped. The game remains listed as Early Access with no 1.0 release announced. Given the extended silence, the promised content remains undelivered, and there is no confirmation that development is still active.
Evidence
Developer posted a redirect linking to an announcement on the Operation: Harsh Doorstop page, with no direct content update for Warfare 1944. This is the last post on the game's Steam page.
Devblog #4 confirms the game is not abandoned and that work continues on the shared OHDCore framework underpinning both Warfare 1944 and Operation: Harsh Doorstop. Many features (vehicles, aircraft, factions) are listed as planned.

Warfare 1944 is inspired by a number games we adore. Our art style is inspired by the gorgeous tactical shooter Due Process. ⁽ˡᶦⁿᵏ⁾ Mission objectives and team-play mechanics are similar to the visceral tactical shooter Squad. ⁽ˡᶦⁿᵏ⁾ Weapon handling is similar to the iconic Red Orchestra series. ⁽ˡᶦⁿᵏ⁾ Lastly, our maps are all deeply influenced by the legendary Battlefield 1942.
Our mission is to create an epic, tactical, large scale, spiritual successor to classic World War II tactical shooters`. We also enjoy single-player games such as Ravenfield ⁽ˡᶦⁿᵏ⁾ and are focusing on creating a robust single-player experience in future updates.
Warfare 1944 is built by Microprose Software on top of the OHDCore framework for Unreal Engine 4. This framework is used by Drakeling Labs to build games for the Drakeling Labs community, including free games such as Operation: Harsh Doorstop.
We hope you enjoy Warfare 1944 and continue to support our mission to make great games for our loyal community members. We look forward to seeing you on the battlefield.
