X Rebirth launched on November 15, 2013 and received a substantial post-launch development run. Egosoft delivered two paid expansions — The Teladi Outpost (December 11, 2014) and Home of Light (February 25, 2016) — along with a series of major free updates (versions 2.0, 2.50, 3.50, 3.60, 4.0, 4.10) that added gameplay systems, new ships, missions, and quality-of-life improvements throughout 2014–2017. The last meaningful content addition came on December 7, 2017, when Egosoft released X Rebirth VR Edition as a standalone product and simultaneously shipped update 4.30, which back-ported VR-derived improvements (joystick/HOTAS support, gamepad enhancements) to the base game. No further content or feature updates have been released since that date. All seven DLC items listed on the store are released, with no unreleased entries. The most recent developer communication was a minor Linux compatibility patch on May 19, 2025, which contained no indication of further content — instead, the post redirected players toward Egosoft's current title, X4: Foundations. This redirection is consistent with the game having been succeeded by a newer entry in the series. The historical pattern of major releases ended in December 2017, and the nearly eight-year silence on new content since then confirms the game's content development concluded at that point.
