Z.O.N.A: Origin graduated from Early Access to its full 1.0 release on August 22, 2025, bringing a complete storyline with multiple endings. At that time, the solo developer stated that while the main story was complete, the game would continue to receive updates — fixes, improvements, and potentially new small features. True to that promise, the game has maintained a strong post-launch update cadence. Major content updates have arrived roughly every 1–3 months since release: Update 1.05 on September 15, 2025 (engine upgrade to Unity 6, new melee weapons, and significant AI overhauls), Update 1.07 on October 12, 2025 (a full day-night cycle system and new artifacts), and Update 1.10 on January 22, 2026 (a new enemy type and expanded loot). Feature patches have continued since, with the most recent on June 12, 2026. This establishes a clear and sustained pattern of ongoing content work. In the Update 1.10 post (January 22, 2026), the developer also announced the start of development on a new game called D.E.C.A.Y., but framed it alongside continued support for Z.O.N.A: Origin rather than as a signal of ending its development. No specific future content has been formally announced for Z.O.N.A: Origin, but the developer has not indicated any plans to stop updates, and the update pattern remains active and consistent as of June 2026.

STORYLINE

Imagine a world where, after a mysterious catastrophe, the relatively safest place is the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In 2030, strange and inexplicable phenomena began occurring there. Witnesses claim to have seen powerful and bright flashes in the north of the Zone. The secret government O.S.Z sent a group of scientists under military protection to investigate, but they disappeared without a trace. Their fate remains a mystery.

After their disappearance, many stalkers tried to enter the northern part of the Zone but also vanished. Anomalous activity in the Zone increased, with strong psi-fields and new mutants appearing. Experienced stalkers believe that unexplained processes in the north of the Zone create anomalies and artifacts. However, confirming this is impossible due to the high radiation levels, especially after recent emissions.

It is believed that once the Zone accumulates enough psi-energy, it will destroy all life on Earth. Head to the most secure area in the north of the Zone and uncover this mystery, facing your fate head-on.
