Evaluation

BirdGut is a free-to-play, hand-drawn puzzle-platformer that launched on May 9, 2019. After a brief post-launch period of bug fixes and balance patches in May–June 2019, the developer Micah Boursier shifted focus elsewhere. On October 3, 2022, Micah published a post explicitly titled "BirdGut's (Probably) Final Update + What's Next," describing it as fixing remaining known bugs before officially moving on from BirdGut. This is a clear developer statement that BirdGut's development is complete. No DLC was ever released or announced for the game, and the store description makes no mention of future content. Subsequent posts from January and March 2025 confirm Micah is fully focused on a new project called Poco, a separate game with its own Steam page and successfully funded Kickstarter. These posts reference BirdGut only in passing as context for the new work, further reinforcing that development on BirdGut has concluded. The game shipped as a complete, self-contained experience and has received its final update. Anyone waiting for additional content should consider this game finished.

About this game

BirdGut is a hand-drawn 2d puzzle-platformer set inside the internal organs of a bird.

A bee hatches in the hive, but something's wrong. Born different from the others, the bee is exiled from the hive and forced to survive the world on its own. That is, until a bird attacks and eats it.
But that's only the beginning... Inside the bird, all of the bugs that it eats are brainwashed and put to work in fantastical, mechanical factories that exist in the place of its organs, except for the outcast bee, whose very disability prevents them from being brainwashed. The bee takes it upon itself to destroy the massive bird from the inside out, and free all the enslaved critters within.
