Evaluation

Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) launched on PC on September 17, 2014 as a port of a previously released game. The store description presents it as a complete, feature-rich product with no mention of planned additional content, DLC, or ongoing development. There are no DLC listings for this title. Developer communications since launch have been limited entirely to bug fixes and compatibility patches: two minor bug fix patches in late 2014, a larger feature patch in November 2020 that improved the interface and added gamepad/widescreen support and additional language options, and a small bug fix patch as recently as May 20, 2026. None of these posts mention future content, expansions, or development plans — they are purely maintenance and quality-of-life updates. This game launched as a complete, self-contained product. There is no post-launch content cadence, no announced DLC, no roadmaps, and no developer statements indicating future content is coming. The ongoing bug fix patches simply reflect Square Enix maintaining the product for compatibility and stability — the game itself has been content-complete since its PC release date.

About this game

The title first debuted in 1991 as the fourth installment in the FINAL FANTASY series. Wildly popular thanks to its unique characters and dramatic storylines, it went on to be ported to many different platforms.

FINAL FANTASY IV was the first title to introduce the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, which has become synonymous with the series. It also saw the introduction of the Augment system, which enabled the transfer of abilities from other characters and gave players an edge in battles.

This iconic title is packed with other amazing features.

  • Voice acting for event scenes

Key events unfold with spoken dialogue.

  • Deeply emotional portrayals

Characters go through visibly apparent emotional changes.

  • A brand new mapping feature

Players start with a completely blank dungeons map, adding an element of the unknown to the mix!

  • Jukebox

Players can listen to the game's music anytime they want.

--------------------------------------------

  • High resolution graphics and retouched cutscenes.

  • The interface has been renewed to match those of the gamepad.

  • Select difficulty from Normal to Hard to adjust the balance of the game.

  • New save functions, including autosave, allow for players to quit the game at any time without fear of losing their progress.
