Evaluation
Heavy Metal Machines is no longer available to purchase or download — the game has been removed from sale on Steam, with no purchase options currently listed.
The game's development history tells a clear story in three chapters. The original developer, Hoplon, ran the game as a live service from its 2018 launch through mid-2021, regularly shipping new vehicles, arenas, seasonal Metal Pass content, and balance updates. On July 22, 2021, Hoplon announced they were ending all major content development — no more new arenas, characters, or tournaments — though they said servers would remain online and seasonal Metal Pass content would continue.
The IP was subsequently acquired by Forthright Entertainment. In a September 17, 2024 developer update, Forthright explained that they had secured investment in January 2024 specifically to relaunch Heavy Metal Machines, but the investing group failed to deliver payments in March and May 2024, causing the relaunch to collapse. Forthright stated the game was "not dead" and that they remained committed to it, and that they were actively seeking new investment — but no follow-up announcement of secured funding or a resumed relaunch has been posted since that September 2024 update.
As of today (July 22, 2026), the game cannot be acquired on Steam. The last official communication from any developer or publisher was on September 17, 2024 — nearly two years ago — with no update on whether new investment was found. The game's current unavailability on the storefront is the determining factor for its status.
Evidence
New publisher Forthright Entertainment disclosed that a planned relaunch investment deal collapsed in mid-2024 after the investing group failed to make promised payments. Forthright stated the game was 'not dead' and they were seeking new investment, but provided no concrete timeline or follow-up. This is the last known official communication from any party associated with the game.
Original developer Hoplon announced the end of the game's content development cycle — no more new arenas, characters, or major tournaments. Servers and seasonal content would continue, but the core development team was moving on to other projects.
