Evaluation
Landless is a post-apocalyptic sandbox survival game that launched into Early Access on May 10, 2017. Throughout 2017 and into 2018, the developer (CodeBullet) shipped multiple updates including major content additions like base defense systems, a boat builder, underwater caves, and Steam Workshop integration.
The developer's last official communication was a Progress Report posted on December 19, 2018. In that post, CodeBullet acknowledged a difficult year with slow progress, but committed to continuing development. They announced a significant pivot: scrapping incremental updates to the existing version in favor of a complete rebuild of the game — adding multiplayer, a skill system, improved base defense, and other major features. They promised an experimental branch release sometime in early 2019 and said to expect another update in January 2019.
That early 2019 update never arrived publicly, and no further news posts, patch notes, or developer communications have appeared since December 19, 2018. The promised experimental multiplayer build has never materialized in any documented form. The game remains listed on Steam in Early Access and is still purchasable, but there has been no developer activity for over seven years.
The store description still describes the game as being "updated regularly," but this language has not been accurate since late 2018. With outstanding commitments (the announced rebuild and multiplayer) undelivered and the developer completely silent for over seven years beyond any reasonable update window, the current status of this project is deeply uncertain.
Evidence
Developer's last post: announced abandoning incremental updates in favor of a full game rebuild with multiplayer, promising an experimental release in early 2019 and a follow-up post in January 2019. Neither materialized.
Developer acknowledged nearly abandoning the project but recommitted, stating 'I have not forsaken Landless' — a Tier 1 continuation signal, but one that has since gone unanswered by any subsequent communication.
