Mist of the Dark entered Steam Early Access on August 18, 2018, developed by a two-person team at Visualistic Studios. In the months after launch, the team posted regularly — addressing bugs, outlining planned features like AI, matchmaking, new maps, and additional game modes, and promising an upcoming major update. The most recent developer communication was a May 6, 2019 post announcing that a new AI system and a follow-up "Gamemode Update" were in the works and coming soon.
Since that May 6, 2019 post, there has been complete silence from the developer. No update, patch, announcement, or social media post has appeared in over seven years. The AI overhaul and Gamemode Update that were described as nearly ready in May 2019 have never shipped. The store page continues to describe the game as being actively developed with major changes planned, but that description has not been updated to reflect the current state of affairs.
The game remains in Early Access, listed on Steam, with substantial promised content that has never been delivered and no developer communication explaining why. This makes the current development status deeply uncertain.
