Evaluation
MuseSwipr is a free-to-play rhythm game that has been in Early Access since December 20, 2022. The developer, Kartsu, remains actively engaged with a clear pipeline of unfinished features.
On December 31, 2025, the developer posted a roadmap explicitly committing to a rating system, a song selection redesign, and expanded custom modes for 2026. Development has followed through: a new built-in song and Unity 6 engine upgrade shipped January 4, 2026; revamped background art landed March 31, 2026; and a series of feature patches through April, May, June, and July 2026 have been steadily laying groundwork for the announced features.
The rating system ("Muse Rating") is the most prominently tracked in-progress feature. The June 25, 2026 patch connected the game to a work-in-progress server specifically to support it, adjusted hit windows to ensure scoring consistency ahead of its launch, and the July 6, 2026 patch completed a full difficulty engine overhaul — explicitly described as part of the rating system infrastructure. As of July 6, 2026, the developer noted they are "still actively refining" the difficulty calculation.
A new note type referred to internally as "flux" was being prepared in the May 10, 2026 patch (described as "preparations for flux"), following earlier confirmations that a new note type was in testing as of June 14, 2026. The difficulty engine overhaul on July 6 also added accounting for this new note type, suggesting it is close to release but not yet shipped.
The song selection redesign was acknowledged as still in planning as of April 13, 2026. In July 2024, the developer also announced a second rhythm game ("Project J") and explicitly stated MuseSwipr would continue receiving updates throughout that project's development — a commitment honored through at least July 2026.
Several major features from the December 2025 roadmap remain undelivered: the full rating system, the song select redesign, and the expanded custom modes. Development is clearly ongoing and active.
Evidence
Difficulty engine completely overhauled as part of rating system preparations, including support for an upcoming new note type. Developer states difficulty calculation is 'still actively being refined.'
Server infrastructure connected to support a work-in-progress 'Muse Rating' system; hit windows adjusted for future rating calculations. Developer explicitly teases a new note type coming soon.
