Project Castaway

Project Castaway launched as a full 1.0 release on March 17, 2026, graduating from Early Access (which began in September 2024). The 1.0 launch brought major additions including co-op multiplayer for up to 4 players, a creative gamemode, Steam Achievements, cloud saves, and numerous gameplay improvements. The developer has been actively updating the game since launch. Patch 1.0.1 followed two days after release on March 19, 2026, addressing authentication and co-op stability issues. Patch 1.0.5 on March 30, 2026 fixed several more co-op bugs. Most recently, patch 1.0.6 on April 23, 2026 added new features including a map section in the journal and additional co-op synchronization improvements. The April 23, 2026 patch notes explicitly state that the team is working on a console port (PS5) and that remaining co-op synchronization scenarios will be tackled in upcoming patches — confirming the developer is still actively engaged with the game. The 1.0 launch post also mentioned plans for PS5 and official Steam Deck support, both of which drive continued improvements to the PC version as well. Throughout Early Access (September 2024 through March 2026), the developer maintained a consistent monthly or near-monthly patch cadence. That pattern has continued post-1.0. No statement has been made indicating that development or updates are concluding.
