Puzzle Pirates is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game that has been running since August 31, 2011. The game is built around a persistent pirate world with a player-run economy, cooperative sailing, and over 20 puzzles — all hallmarks of a game designed to operate and be supported indefinitely. On September 3, 2026 — just one day before today's assessment — the developer shipped a major update introducing Swordfight Duels, which adds a fully visible two-board duel mode with spectator support, tournament integration, and a notice board for reviewing recent duels. The same release also added Brigand King Collection Cases, customizable puzzle difficulty settings, world map improvements, smarter duty reports, shop and labor system upgrades, new social commands, and various bug fixes. This confirms the developer is actively engaged with the game, continuing to add new gameplay systems and polish existing ones. Puzzle Pirates remains available to play and is clearly an ongoing live service with no indication that development is winding down.
