Sunless Sea launched on February 6, 2015 and received one major paid expansion, Zubmariner, which released on October 11, 2016. That expansion is the only DLC ever released for the game, and it has been available for nearly a decade. Since Zubmariner shipped, Failbetter Games has not released any further content for Sunless Sea — no additional DLC has been announced or listed, and no developer post has signaled plans for new content specific to this game. The studio's attention moved on to Sunless Skies (released February 2019), its Sovereign Edition (May 2021), and then Mask of the Rose (announced 2020). The most recent news post touching on Sunless Sea, from February 4, 2025, was a 10th anniversary celebration announcement for a Fallen London tabletop RPG — a third-party project by Magpie Games, not new content for Sunless Sea itself. The post mentions a potential future Sunless Sea module for the tabletop game as a "dream" contingent on the project's success, but this is a separate product from a separate studio and does not represent planned content for the video game. The last bug fix patch was issued on January 26, 2023, indicating the game is still maintained at a basic level, but there has been no content development since October 2016. Sunless Sea is a complete, finished game.
