Evaluation

ZDSimulator launched on Steam on April 17, 2025, as a relaunch of a Ukrainian railway simulator originally developed in 2007. Since launch, the development team has maintained a very active release schedule: six major content updates have shipped (v56.0 through v60.2), alongside numerous feature patches and bug fixes. The most recent major update, version 60.2 "Toward Commuter Rail," was published on September 1, 2026, just one day before today's assessment date — introducing a sweeping overhaul of sounds, graphics, physics, multiplayer, and locomotive systems. The DLC catalogue has grown to 38 items. Three of these — the Kosice-Uzhhorod Route [DLC-31], the ER9e Electric Train [DLC-32], and the Kyiv-Vasylkiv2 Route [DLC-33] — are listed with a release date of September 30, 2026, meaning they have been announced on the store but have not yet shipped as of today. These represent concrete upcoming content. Additionally, the December 31, 2025 update (v60.0 "Polar Express") explicitly noted that four more route control panels for multiplayer (Kyiv–Shevchenko, Kyiv–Vorozhba, and Kyiv–Zhmerynka) were in development at the time of that post. The March 2026 patch (v60.1) subsequently added panels for Lozova-Henichesk and Shevchenko-Tymkove, suggesting that work is continuing on the remaining announced panels. The developer shows no signs of slowing down, with major updates shipping roughly every 2–3 months and feature patches in between. No statement has been made indicating the end of content development.
