Evaluation

Away From Life entered Early Access on April 22, 2026, developed by a solo developer (Anton at Cursor Games). The developer has maintained a very active update cadence since launch, with feature patches and major content updates shipping regularly. Two major content milestones have shipped so far: the Wildlife & Exploration Update on June 18, 2026 (new biome, animals, weapons, hunting tools), and the September 19, 2026 patch adding a new island, a Metal Detector mechanic, new items, and Japanese language support. Smaller feature patches also shipped on April 26, April 27, May 17, and July 25, 2026. The developer published an initial roadmap on April 30, 2026, followed by an updated Summer Roadmap on May 27, 2026 outlining specific planned milestones: Ocean Activities (advanced fishing system, new marine resources), Farming & Progression (advanced farming, new crops, character progression), Vehicles & Multiplayer (new vehicle types, co-op mechanics), and Story & Major Content (continued storyline, world secrets, endgame content). While the original timeline targeted June–August 2026, the September 19, 2026 patch notes confirm the developer is still actively working on roadmap content — specifically noting that a story ending is currently in development and expected in an upcoming update. Several roadmap items (Ocean Activities, Farming & Progression, Vehicles & Multiplayer, and the story conclusion) remain undelivered as of today, September 22, 2026. The developer has communicated no intent to conclude Early Access or declare the game complete.

About this game

After surviving a helicopter crash, your main goal is to return home. Stranded on remote islands, you must endure as a castaway - gathering resources to find food, build shelter, craft essential tools, uncover the islands’ mysteries both on land and underwater, and fight to chart your way back to safety.

In these islands and waters, you can’t do groceries. You must hunt the wild for sustenance and gather resources and materials to build your shelter. It starts with you and you alone - giving up just isn’t an option.

Danger comes in all directions, and you’ll need something to fend them off and rest easy. Find a spot and build a roof over your head - it’s more than just a shelter from the storm.

Everywhere’s uncharted territory - which means there are secrets to uncover. Weave through danger, dive into the blue depths, and traverse the islands to find more than what you see under the sun.

No man is an island - even in the wilderness. Team up with fellow castaways and increase your survivability with combined effort. You all want to go home - might as well do it together and strong.
