Catto Pew Pew! CLASSIC launched into Early Access on August 16, 2022 and received a series of updates through December 2022, including new game modes, cosmetic DLC, and community maps. Development on this version effectively wound down after December 13, 2022 as the developer shifted focus to building a full sequel. On July 16, 2026, the developer (Oakley) posted a farewell announcement confirming the game's closure: servers are shutting down as part of a Steam delisting process, and the game never graduated out of Early Access. As of today, July 30, 2026, the store listing confirms the game has no purchase options available, meaning the delisting process is now complete. The game can no longer be purchased or played. Players who purchased DLC for CLASSIC were offered compensation in the form of in-game currency ("Meowbux") in the new Catto Pew Pew!, which is now releasing as the successor. The new game's Steam page went live on August 24, 2025 and its launch is imminent.
