Deuterium Wars launched on Steam on October 10, 2019 and received several updates during its short post-launch life. However, on December 9, 2019, the developer posted an official announcement confirming that funding had run out and development was being permanently halted. In-game purchases were disabled on that same date, and the game's servers were shut down completely on January 5, 2020 — making the game unplayable in its intended multiplayer form. A final farewell post was published on January 8, 2020 confirming the servers had gone offline. While the game technically remains listed on Steam as purchasable, it is a multiplayer-only title whose servers have been permanently closed for over six years. The developer explicitly stated this was the end of the project with no path forward.

Thirty years ago, a massive asteroid almost destroyed Altanar. A high-tech Dome absorbed most of the strike and now keeps the planet from total destruction. Although part of Altanar is a post-apocalyptic desert, some areas still have megalopolises, military bases, and even wilderness. Now, a serious battle for power and control of rare deuterium resources has begun. Deuterium lies at the heart of most technologies, including fueling the Dome.
