Fera: The Sundered Tribes

Fera: The Sundered Tribes launched into Early Access on September 17, 2024. The developer, Massive Damage, Inc., was transparent about serious financial difficulties from early on. In a November 15, 2024 post, they revealed the game had generated only $22K in take-home revenue for the studio (after investor obligations), forcing them to lay off 60% of their team. They outlined a "Hail Mary" plan: drop the price to $9.99, run sales, and attempt a 1.0 launch on January 3, 2025 to gain Steam visibility. However, in their January 6, 2025 update, the developer clarified that they chose not to release a 1.0, as they felt the game was not close to a finished state. Instead, they lowered the base price to $9 USD while remaining in Early Access. They disclosed that their total revenue share at that point was approximately $36K — most of which had already been spent on patches — and stated that further development depended entirely on whether Steam revenue could grow enough by March/April 2025 to hire additional resources. In the meantime, the team's primary focus shifted to a separate, already-funded unannounced project. No developer communication has appeared since January 6, 2025. The March/April 2025 checkpoint the studio mentioned has passed with no update. The game remains purchasable in Early Access, but there is no confirmation that development has continued or that the revenue threshold needed to fund further work was ever reached. The situation leaves the game's future genuinely unclear.
