Steambirds Alliance was a free-to-play massively multiplayer bullet-hell shooter that launched on August 22, 2019. The developer, Spry Fox, made two major post-launch updates — the "Mega Update" (Flocks, Combat Sim, Military Academy dungeon) in November 2019 and the "More Together" update (revamped missions, Boss Arena, crafting overhaul) in March 2020 — along with several smaller feature and balance patches throughout that period. On October 19, 2020, Spry Fox published a farewell post explicitly announcing the end of the game. They stated that despite their efforts, player numbers had dwindled to unsustainable levels, the game had cost significantly more than it earned, and they could no longer afford to continue development. Effective immediately, they disabled in-app purchases, and indicated the servers would remain online for approximately four more months before being shut down to avoid further hosting costs. The game is no longer available for purchase on Steam — there are no purchase options listed. This confirms the game has been removed from sale, consistent with the studio's announced shutdown timeline.
