Evaluation
OLDTV launched on July 15, 2017 as a free-to-play indie game. In the weeks following launch, the developer shipped several patches and updates. Both pieces of paid DLC — a soundtrack (released July 25, 2017) and a content DLC called COLDTV (released October 20, 2017) — have shipped, with no unreleased DLC remaining on the store.
The developer's plans for a larger follow-up shifted over time. In August 2017, an in-development DLC was elevated to a full standalone sequel called PLASMA TV. However, an April 2018 developer post confirmed that PLASMA TV development was paused indefinitely while the developer focused on a different project. That different project became BACK OF SPACE, a sequel to OLDTV whose store page was announced in August 2021. A major update to BACK OF SPACE posted in December 2021 is the most recent developer communication found across all OLDTV news posts.
Crucially, the store description for OLDTV itself now directs players to join the Discord and try the sequel (BACK OF SPACE), which signals that the developer considers OLDTV a finished product and has moved on. No further content for OLDTV has been announced or promised. All DLC has shipped, and developer activity since 2018 has been focused entirely on the sequel. The game launched and completed its content cycle by October 20, 2017, with the release of COLDTV.
