GUILTY GEAR XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R is a classic 2D fighting game that launched on Steam on May 26, 2015. Between late 2019 and late 2021, the development team "French CaliBurst" undertook a major volunteer-driven project to add GGPO rollback netcode to the game, delivering a series of substantial updates that modernized the online experience significantly.
In November 2021, the team pushed what they described as their "final update" — a complete rewrite of the matchmaking system — and published a post on November 30, 2021 explicitly calling it their final update and asking the community to nominate the game for Steam's "Labor of Love" award. This is a clear developer statement that the major update campaign had concluded.
Following that, Arc System Works continued light maintenance: a security vulnerability patch in July 2022, quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes in June 2023, and a December 2023 patch that restored the Online TeamVS mode that had been removed during the November 2021 matchmaking overhaul. That December 3, 2023 update appears to be the last significant developer action on the game.
