UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r] launched on Steam on August 20, 2018 as UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st]. On March 27, 2020, FRENCH-BREAD delivered a major free update that renamed the game to its current title and added a new playable character (Londrekia, The White Knight) along with seven new DLC packs — additional colors, gallery items, and a round call voice pack. This was announced on March 10, 2020 and shipped on March 27, 2020. Following that update, the developer released a handful of balance and bug-fix patches through late April 2020 to address issues introduced by the update. All 26 DLC items listed on the store are marked as released, with the most recent batch having shipped on March 27, 2020. There have been no announcements of additional DLC, no roadmap for future content, and no developer posts of any kind after April 28, 2020. The successor to this game, UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes, was released in early 2024, which is consistent with this entry's development having concluded. The game appears to have reached its final content state with the March 27, 2020 cl-r update.

The Hollow Night
Since time immemorial, the organization “Night Blade” has acted as guardians in what is known as the “Hollow Night”. While resting from her eternal labors in a nondescript town that the Princess of the Night Blade, Linne, meets a young boy named Hyde, who is in possession of the fabled sword of destiny that she has been searching far and wide for.In the Hollow Night, monsters called Voids feed upon the power that manifests there, while those known as In-births use that same power for their own ends. While investigating the reason behind the sudden increase in the numbers of both Voids and In-births in the Hollow Night, Linne hears of an evil plot being hatched by someone calling themselves “Paradox”. This person turns out to be none other than Hilda, the leader of a shadowy organization known as “Amnesia”.
Vowing to stop “Paradox” before her nefarious plans come to fruition, Linne heads off into the Night. Unbeknownst to her, the young boy she encountered, Hyde, follows behind her with a desperate need to know who, and what, she is.
And thus, the story of the Hollow Night and In-births begins–-
